From campsites to cabins, hotels in town to options a little father, here is a quick guide to where to stay when visiting Bayfield, Wisconsin:

1) Seagull Bay Motel

Located just outside of downtown Bayfield, Seagull Bay Motel is a budget-friendly, clean and cute. Many of the rooms have a view of Lake Superior and Madeline Island.

Amenities include a coffee maker and kitchenette, wifi and patio access with Lake views. The motel is just off the Brownstone Trail, making it a scenic and short walk through the woods and along the Lake to reach downtown Bayfield.

2) St. James Social

In the heart of downtown Bayfield, St. James Social is the perfect stay for couples looking for clean and classy lodging with an excellent location, rooftop lounge and sauna access.

This is the ideal location for enjoying downtown Bayfield, and the restaurant below is top notch.

3) Queen’s View Bed and Breakfast

For a cozy and unique Bed and Breakfast stay, check out Queen’s View Bed and Breakfast. This stay includes a continental breakfast and pool and sauna access, and is a short walk from downtown Bayfield.

4) The Washburn Inn

Stay just outside of Bayfield in the cozy town of Washburn at The Washburn Inn. Right on the harbor, this location is a great budget-friendly place to basecamp if you’re looking to enjoy a variety of outdoor activities in the area. Bayfield proper has a really cute downtown area, but a lot of the outdoor activities in the area are beyond Bayfield proper including the Apostle Islands, many hiking trails, and waterfalls.

5) Wild Rice Retreat

The all-inclusive Scandinavian inspired wilderness Wild Rice Retreat features tiny cabins in the woods and is adults-only. Enjoy a restaurant, yoga, a bar, a sauna and fitness classes. Often described as a luxury cabin in the woods experience.

6) The Hotel Chequamegon

Located outside of Bayfield in Ashland, Wisconsin, The Hotel Chequamegon is a great place to basecamp if you’re looking for a budget-friendly option and Bayfield is just a day or two portion of a larger trip. If you’re planning a Northwoods waterfall road trip, basecamping in Ashland likely makes more sense then all the way up in Bayfield.

7) Quality Inn, Ashland

For lake views and a clean and budget-friendly spot to stay check out the Quality Inn Ashland. This is a great spot for people looking to visit Copper Falls State Park as well as Bayfield and the Apostle Islands.

8) Sea Kayak Camp in the Apostle Islands

Looking for something that’s more adventure than traditional “stay”? Check out a wilderness overnight sea kayaking adventure in the Apostle Islands with Lost Creek Adventures! Here, you can tackle open water crossings with a qualified guide, eat fun and exciting camp food, and sleep under the stars.

9) Little Sand Bay Campground

If you’re looking for a place to camp near Bayfield, Wisconsin check out Little Sand Bay Campground up at the edge of the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore. You’ll want to email to reserve a spot in advance here, but if you’re tent camping there’s a decent chance you’ll be able to find a last minute site tucked away in the woods at the back.

10) Legendary Waters Resort & Casino (Camping Available)

Legendary Waters Resort and Casino is a great spot to set up shop either in the resort, or at the resort campground (great location, not known for being super clean. Great for 1-2 nights if you’re goal is utility and low cost).

11) Memorial Park Campground

For camping near Washburn, check out first-come first serve Memorial Park Campground. Many sites are waterfront, but this tends to be one of the more expensive places to camp due to extremely nice facilities and location.

12) Bayfield Tiny House

Looking for an adorable cabin in the woods? Check out Bayfield Tiny House. This clean and cozy house in the woods makes for a perfect romantic getaway.

13) Bayfield Fruit Loop Retreat

Bayfield Fruit Loop Retreat is a cozy and cute vacation rental with two cottages in the woods just five minutes from downtown Bayfield. You can rent the two cottages together, or either separately.

14) South Shore A-Frame

This adorable renovated cabin, the South Shore A-Frame, is located in Herbster, Wisconsin, which is 30-45 minutes outside of Bayfield (depending how fast you drive) but a great place to stay if you’re planning on visiting Bayfield for just an afternoon or two of your trip, but looking for a more cabin in the woods, somewhere near a remote beach vibe.
